# Select an existing item for a new job

Book another repair for an item already recorded against the customer.

## Before you start

- Confirm that it is the same physical item, using the serial number or other identifying details where possible.
- Use a new item record for a different physical item, even if it is the same model.

 1

### Select the customer

Choose **New Job**, search for the customer and select the correct record. The customer-item choices depend on which customer is selected.

2

### Choose the existing item

In Item Details, open **Select a Customer Item or Add a New One Below**. Choose the matching item from the list. Check the identifying information rather than relying on the model name alone.

Select the physical item that the customer has brought back.

3

### Review and complete the booking

Review the prefilled item details and record the current condition or accompanying items as appropriate. Complete the repair description, services, pricing and other booking fields, then review and select **Book In Job**. For the complete process, see Create a new job below.

## What happens next

A new job is created for the selected existing item, keeping the work associated with that item rather than creating another item record.

## Common questions

### What if the item is missing from the list?

Check that you selected the correct customer. If the item has not been recorded before, enter it as a new item.

### Should I use an item template instead?

Use a template for the common details of a new physical item. Use the customer-item selector for a specific item already recorded for that customer.
