# Manage jobs

Use the jobs list and job screen to keep repairs, customer communication and progress up to date.

## Before you start

- Have an existing job to work with. To book a repair in, use [Create a new job](https://repairpilot.com/help/how-to-create-a-new-job/).
- The screenshots show the single-store layout. Available fields, statuses and actions depend on your account setup.

 1

### Find the job

Open **Jobs → Open Jobs** for active work or **Closed Jobs** for completed and other closed jobs. Use the search box, quick filters or **Filters** to narrow the list. Select the job ID to open it.

Find a job and select its ID to open the full record.

2

### Choose what the list shows

Use **Columns** to choose visible information and **Sort** to change the order. Use **Save View** when you want to keep a useful layout. Check active filters before exporting results or applying a bulk action.

3

### Review and update the job

The job screen brings together the status, due date, assignment, customer and **Job Breakdown**. Select an editable value to change it, then use the save control shown for that field.

Review the current status, responsibility and charges before making changes.

- **Job Details:** repair description, location, barcode and approval/payment flags.
- **Item Details:** the physical item, its specifications and condition.
- **Assignments:** staff and progress for individual repairs.
- **Worksheets:** structured checks linked to the job.
- **Documents:** saved generated document snapshots.

4

### Record progress and contact the customer

Use **Notes** for updates, and **Attachments** for supporting photographs or files. Customer contact buttons offer SMS, email, a check-in receipt and a quote. The top-right three-dot menu also provides invoice and printing actions. Review **Job History** for assignment, status, location and contact records.

## What happens next

Check that edited values are displayed correctly. A status change can trigger configured automations, including customer emails, so use the status that matches the actual stage of work.

## Common questions

### Why has a job disappeared from Open Jobs?

Its status may place it in Closed Jobs, or the current search or filters may hide it. Check both before creating a duplicate.

### Does marking a job Paid create a payment?

No. Paid records a flag; it does not create an invoice or payment record. Job Approved and Quote Required also record flags only.
