### Enter the Custom Field Settings

When you add or edit a custom field, you have various options on the form. (a) The **Custom Field Name** is the name that will appear next to the custom field on the Customer form, printed documents etc. (e.g. Customer Age etc.) (b) The Custom Field Location determines which module shows the field. Select **Customer** for a customer field. (c) The Field Type refers to the type of data to be entered into this field. The options are; Textbox (single line text), Text Area (Multi line text), Checkbox (for yes/no options), Dropdown/Select (can hold a list of items to be selected from). (d) **Maximum Characters** sets a character limit; leave it blank if no limit is needed. (e) Compulsory Field - If you check this, it will be marked down as being compulsory in order to submit the Customer form. (f) Dropdown/Select Options - If you have selected the Dropdown/Select option from (c), then this is where you would enter the options for that dropdown box. Enter an option on each line. ![Customer settings in a single-store account](https://repairpilot.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/repair-pilot-guide-custom-fields-form-min.png) 5
